Victims / Survivor Stories…

Operation Embrace’s grassroots efforts are supported by social workers throughout Israel.  With their help, Operation Embrace is informed about the injured and their urgent needs and can provide immediate and long term assistance.

Operation Embrace connects the injured to schools, synagogues, churches and individuals in the U.S.  As a result, strong friendships develop which assist greatly in recovery for the terror victim.

Here are some of their stories:

Yael, 28, is a victim of a suicide attack on a bus bombing.  She sustained severe head injuries, burns to her body and hearing loss.  OE provided Yael with tuition scholarships and specialized hearing aids allowing her to attend law school.

Aluma, 20, was injured when a suicide bomber blew up her bus in Jerusalem.  Aluma suffers from shrapnel wounds and paralysis on the right side of her body.  OE connected Aluma's family with Congregation Ohr Kodesh in Chevy Chase, Maryland.  A strong friendship has developed between them.

Limor, 7-months pregnant, and her husband, were driving when they were ambushed by terrorists. Limor’s  husband was killed and she was rushed to the hospital for an emergency C-section.  OE provides monthly assistance to help with medical needs and expenses associated with raising her broken family. OE connected Limor with Anshei Sphard-Beth El Emeth Congregation in Memphis, Tennessee.

Nir, 17, was on his way to high school when a suicide bomber attacked and blew up his bus (Jerusalem bus #14), killing and injuring dozens of people. He sustained shrapnel wounds all over his body, continues to need surgeries on his mouth and suffers from hearing loss. OE provided financial assistance that enabled Nir to join his High School class on a trip to Eastern Europe.

Ronit, 38, a mother of four young children, was traveling by bus to work when it was blown up by a suicide bomber. Critically wounded, she remained in a coma for several weeks. Still suffering from severe headaches and dizziness from head injuries, OE helps her take care of her young family’s needs.

Leah, a single mother of seven, was injured on a bus bombing in Be’er Sheva. OE provided her with financial assistance to help rebuild her life.

Baruch, an immigrant from Ethiopia, was shot many times by terrorists.  His injuries resulted in the loss of a leg.  After suffering from an ill-fitting prosthesis, OE provided the funds for a new prosthesis.

Doron, 31, is a journalist who was injured in a terror attack in Sinai in October 2004.  Doron has PTSD, a severe head injury, continued hearing loss, vision deterioration and dizziness.  OE funded Doron’s transportation to his psychotherapy sessions.

Tzur, 10, was talented in math, flute and gymnastics until he was shot in the head by terrorists.  Tzur sustained severe brain injuries.  OE visited his family during their daily visits at Alyn Hospital.  OE provided Tzur’s family with financial assistance.

Raphael, 3, lives in Sderot, which has been barraged with Kassam rockets in the last years.  A Kassam rocket injured Raphael in front of his nursery school as he watched his grandfather and friend being killed by the same rocket.  OE provided financial assistance to Raphael’s family.

Elham, is an Arab Christian mother whose husband was killed and son injured at Café Maxim in Haifa. Their youngest daughter was only days away from being married when this happened.  OE provided financial assistance to Elham to help care for her injured son and to help this family begin a new life.

Michal was standing on the street in Hadera when a car bomb exploded.  She lost both legs.  Operation Embrace provided Michal with a computer, and continues to provide assistance as she struggles to rebuild her life.  Michal continues to suffer from her injuries and Operation Embrace continues to support her.
